The Challenge

The PJD Group consists of a four companies located at six sites across the UK. PJD appointed Senior to produce a multi-faceted website to represent the services in their 5 key sectors. Each website within the suite needed its own domain name, but all the websites had to share common content such as news stories, directories and vacancies.

In addition to the suite of public facing websites, PJD also required an Intranet for their staff to share the latest news, company documents and policies across the Group locations.

Lastly, because the website was to represent all the group activity it had to contain a large amount of information. This content required a large number of sub-pages which needed to be organised in a findable structure.

The Approach

To build the suite of websites controlled by one administration panel Senior deployed the a new RiverCMS ‘multisites’ implementation. This gave PJD the ability to easily switch between pages to edit content in the different sites and the intranet - and all from a single administration panel - which allowed for easy management of a mass of content.  News, Case Studies, Documents and Vacancies can all be created and then published in a single site or shared between the various websites. This offered maximum flexibility for the PJD administrators.

Multisites in RiverCMS allow each site to have a different theme and domain name, as shown by the PJD website suite. Users can hop between different sites in the Group via the slideshow located at the top of each page. When visiting a new site in the Group, the site opens with its own domain name in a new window or tab and displays in its own colour theme with its own logos and page structure.

Going one step further, the intranet that Senior created for PJD is managed within the multisites implementation but has a completely different design and of course is fully password protected.

To display the many sub-pages within the individual sites, each site uses the RiverCMS PanelNav, a drop-down navigation with ability to add panels, all administrable by PJD.

The Results

PJD received five differently branded websites - all with individual domain names - and a password protected intranet all in the same system. This was supplied with simple and quick administration in a single admin panel which provides maximum flexibility for the centralised content, documents and images.

Each site is uniformed in design and easily accessible from another, offering a smooth user experience. An attractive design coupled with an easy-to-use navigation structure has meant that users have a seamless journey through each of the 5 sites.

As ever, from a search engine perspective, PJD is performing well. Google has indexed the vast majority of pages in the public facing website suite.

The above results have led to a very happy client which is the best result of all!
