Who are EMC?
East Midlands Councils (EMC) is a consultative forum for local
government in the East Midlands. It was created to represent the
interests of local councils to the national government and to help local
councils work together on strategic issues.

The Challenge
The major challenge was to consolidate 2 large websites into 1 highly
functional website for the new EMC brand. The website also needed to offer
interactive experiences for all types of visitors (staff, members and
non-members).
The Approach
Our prior experience working with NFP membership organisations enabled us to
offer valuable insight into attracting and retaining member interest, and we
outclassed numerous web agencies in order to secure the contract for this high
profile regional project.
Using River CMS, we provided EMC with a host of modular functionality including events management, news management, vacancies management and directories. We also provided additional ‘tag cloud’ functionality to aid website navigation and linking, and we provided a comprehensive publication library.
We built a customer made email alert system to enable visitors to sign up for regular updated website content for specific areas of interest, and we integrated a staff intranet for internal EMC usage.
The Result
Since its launch, the website has attracted a huge amount of interest and viewing figures are extremely impressive.
