Launched in April 2011, the IPA online Media Owner Awards (MOA) supported by New Media Age are designed to showcase best practice in levels of service that online media owners provide to agencies, with the aim of raising the digital standard.

The Challenge
The IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Marketing) desired a unique and
striking website for their ‘Media Owner Awards’ branch, which matched up to its
impressive reputation.
The IPA MOA website required
a simple way for entrants to submit their work. It would also keep
readers informed about key dates and the awards night.
Over time, the website is designed to build up an exciting showcase
of past winners. During the design of the site, this was something that needed to be
catered for.
An exciting, vibrant design was needed with an interactive
feel.
The Approach
To submit their work, entrants can simply add their contact details on the entry form. They select the categories they wish to enter, attach their entry forms and
submit their entry fee. Jquery entry aids are used to guide
the user through the process, such as enabling tips when the user is focusing
on a particular field.
The ‘winners’ page will be populated over time to show off the winning
entries. The website administrators have the ability to populate this
page how they see fit. It uses a WYSIWYG (What You See Is
What You Get) editor, which powers the content of the page. Exciting layouts, use
of media and interesting typography will produce an inspiring winners gallery
in the future.
Whilst the website is fairly simple in terms of design, Senior have added various touches to add interest to the content:
- The home page features a repeating animation of a Moa bird gradually appearing and spinning.
- The categories page allows users to just hover over the entry format text, indicating to potential entrants whether they are eligible to enter without leaving the page.
- Judges biographies use a simple but effective Jquery effect to display biographies of many judges in a small space.
The Results
A bright, eye-catching design coupled with quirky features has made this
site extremely aesthetically pleasing. The Moa bird, on the homepage, uses a ‘flashlet’
allowing it to gradually appear and then spin. Very dramatic.
Interactive parts of the site are simple and well-structured. This makes
filling in entry forms a straight-forward process as it guides the user at
every stage. Key information has been stored in clear and easy-to-find
categories. These categories and easy navigation has meant that this site
offers a smooth user experience.
The site is already fully indexed in Google. Using an excellent keyword
strategy, the site performs very well in search rankings for relevant phrases.
An attractive
design, simple layout and impressive search engine optimisation has resulted in
a very happy client!
