The Challenge
The professional institute selected us above numerous London agencies due to
our innovative approach and custom development
expertise.
The IPA required a new website that would provide fresh thinking for navigation and content publication. They wanted a highly innovative website that puts the 70,000+ members at
the forefront of all deliverables.
The challenge was to produce a method for
members to easily locate relevant information from within a website that has
more than 30,000 items of content.
It also needed a way to offer additional and ongoing value-added services to
its knowledgeable and media savvy audience.
The Approach
We began by rethinking the solution from the ground-up, evaluating firstly
why the previous website had failed and looking precisely at what the membership
wanted and needed for the website.
Following our analysis, we presented the idea of a centralised
publishing engine that could publish content of various types to multiple
websites. We also presented the idea of personalising the web experience on an
individual member basis, allowing each member to specify numerous content types
that they have a particular interest in. This would then return relevant
content to them on their personalised homepage similar to the
Google website and more recently the BBC website. This idea required the use of
'drag and drop' page flakes and internal web feeds.
In addition to the above, we suggested many other features - many of which
proved to be highly popular and made it through to the end implementation.
The Results
The system was designed to publish a wide variety of content types including
text, images, videos and audio clips. With thousands of pieces
of content stored within the system.
To allow users to find relevant content quickly and easily, we
removed the need for standard navigation. It was replaced with a variety of
methods of discovering content including: an extremely powerful
internal website search facility, tag clouds,
implicit and explicit user profiling, content
categorisation and personalised homepages with
incoming latest content feeds driven by category.
Other features of the website include content monetisation,
membership information integration, social bookmarking, comprehensive visitor
analytics, RSS and much much more...
The system also supports multiple contributors and multiple editors, with
various security permissions and restrictions dependent upon admin type.
The result was all around success, as well as International
recognition in the WEBBY AWARDS.
We've since gone on to develop more websites for the IPA including an Awards
website and complex Online CPD.
