Membership websites: The importance of consistency across multiple domains

Honoured by the Webby Awards as one of the best membership websites on the net, the IPA was praised for its dynamic CPD platform.

Q: What made it stand out?

A: A CPD platform that seamlessly integrates with multiple domains.

The online CPD qualifications offered to IPA members are provided by an outsourced agency on an external domain. The IPA website was developed to seamlessly integrate with this 3rd party platform, making use of corporate colour branding to provide a consistent user experience. Take a look:

Nothing innovate about that we hear you say!

Well… here’s the clever bit.

The external CPD training portal cross-references a visitors IPA account to determine the level of viewing permissions provided across all of the online course content. Based on their subscription type (free, student or full members), users are provided with the appropriate level of access. This advanced CMS functionality provides the flexibility to manage multiple-levels of access across different types of users.

What’s the benefit?

Since opening up more access to free course content (and only charging for qualification exams) the IPA have seen an increase in user engagement, with more members than ever completing CPD training modules. We’ve found this to be the case across many membership websites, whereby offering ‘teaser’ snippets of content for free increases the number of paid-for sign-ups.

We’re membership specialists…

Working with many of the UK’s largest membership organisations such as the Advertising Association (AA), The Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) and The British Parking Association (BPA), we have developed a membership specific CMS (River CMS) that is tailored to the niche requirements of the membership sector.
